In the News: Term limits make room for political change

Unite New York

Unite NY volunteer Amanda Benhart wrote a letter to the editor published on Syracuse.com explaining the importance of term limits, which are on the ballot in Onondaga County this Nov. 4. She wrote:

“Unite NY, a pro-democracy group I volunteer with, has found that 84% of New Yorkers support term limits, with broad support across partisan ideology, race, class, etc. This should be a no-brainer. Together we are stronger than a single voice, and our representatives can reflect that. Our elected officials should evolve alongside our stories. This vote will bring change on a county level: Local government undoubtedly impacts our daily lives, from parks to schools to public safety and budgets. However, our small choices also impact the big picture, as local policies branch into state and federal ones, and a vote for local term limits today can build needed limits for higher-profile seats tomorrow. By nurturing our democracy locally, we ensure that it grows stronger for everyone. On Nov. 4, give Onondaga County the chance to deliver meaningful structural change at a moment when we need it so urgently.”
